Watch: Rockies turn triple play in spectacular fashion

It hasn’t been the best start to the 2025 season for the Colorado Rockies, but they turned one of the best plays so far with a triple play Saturday.

In the top of the second inning of the home contest against the Athletics, the road team got runners on first and second with no outs. Rockies pitcher German Marquez delivered a pitch to Jacob Wilson who grounded to third baseman Ryan McMahon. He quickly stepped on third base before delivering it to Kyle Farmer at second base to get the second out and Farmer’s relay to Michael Toglia at first base completed the triple play.

The Rockies players couldn’t hide their smiles after ending the inning with the spectacular play.

It had been nearly a decade since Colorado last completed a triple play, last doing so on Sept. 1, 2015. Perhaps the triple play got momentum going for Colorado. In the bottom half of the inning, Sean Bouchard hit a two-run home run to get the scoring going in Denver.

Colorado entered the day with a 1-6 record.
