It’s a girl!!!!
Los Angeles Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani and his wife, Mamiko Tanaka, announced the birth of their daughter on Saturday.
Ohtani missed the opening two games of their road series against the Texas Rangers after being placed on MLB’s paternity list in preparation for the birth.
“Welcome to the Ohtani Family!,” Ohtani said on social media. “I am so grateful to my loving wife who gave birth to our healthy beautiful daughter. To my daughter, thank you for making us very nervous yet super anxious parents. I would also like to thank the Dodgers organization, my teammates, and the fans for their constant support and kind words of encouragement.
“I would also like to express my sincere gratitude to all the medical professionals and everyone who dedicated their support to us, up until this wonderful day.”
Ohtani announced that he and Tanaka were expecting their first child in December.
The Dodgers are in Texas taking on the Rangers this weekend before an off day on Monday. The team will then travel to Chicago to play the Cubs in a three-game series, starting on Tuesday.
Ohtani, the reigning National League Most Valuable Player, is batting .288 with six home runs and eight RBI for the Dodgers this season.
