WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event results: CM Punk, Jade Cargill win

New champions were crowned at Saturday Night’s Main Event.

CM Punk became the new World Heavyweight Champion after defeating Jey Uso in the main event for the vacant title on Saturday.

The title became vacant after Seth Rollins relinquished the championship due to injury.

Jade Cargill also had a successful night, winning her first singles championship in WWE. Cargill put together a dominant performance against Tiffany Stratton to secure the title.

With the title matches decided, here’s a look at how everything played out on Saturday Night’s Main Event:

CM Punk vs. Jey Uso results

CM Punk won the World Heavyweight Championship after hitting the GTS (Go To Sleep) twice on Jey Uso.

The crowd remained split early in the match with two fan favorites competing in the ring for the vacant World Heavyweight Championship.

CM Punk controlled the match early before Uso found a spot to capitalize and take the upper hand. Uso briefly managed to go up to the top turnbuckle for a second frog splash attempt before the Chicago native managed to cut off Uso and capitalized with a suplex from the turnbuckle.

The match would end up outside of the ring with Uso spearing Punk through the barricade. When the men managed to get back in the ring, Punk countered Uso’s frog splash but putting his knees up.

Punk would land his finishing move on Uso, but it wasn’t enough to put Uso away. The two men would continue to counter one another before Punk managed to put away Uso for good.

How will John Cena’s final opponent be decided?

A 16-man tournament will take place to determine John Cena’s final opponenet. Cena announced in a video that the tournament field will include talent from RAW, SmackDown and NXT. He also mentioned that there could be some talent participating who aren’t currently with the company.

John Cena will have the final match of his WWE career on Dec. 13 in Washington D.C.

Cena spent nearly 24 years with the company and set a WWE record with 17 world titles. He has won the WWE Championship 14 times and the World Heavyweight Championship three times.

Dominik Mysterio vs. Rusev vs. Penta results

Rusev and Penta go right after Dominik Mysterio to start the triple threat match for the Intercontinental Championship.

Rusev and Penta eventually quickly stop working together and go after one another.

Mysterio resorted to his devious tactics during the match, ringing the bell outside the ring to distract Rusev, who had Penta in a submission.

Penta managed to get a hold of the bell hammer and threatened to hit Mysterio with it, but instead hit Rusev.

After throwing Penta out of the ring, Mysterio managed to hit the frog splash from the top turnbuckle and pinned the knocked-out Rusev to win the match.

Tiffany Stratton vs. Jade Cargill results

Jade Cargill dominated Tiffany Stratton throughout a majority of the match to claim the WWE Women’s Championship.

The new champion used several physical maneuvers on an already injured Stratton before pinning her in the center of the ring.

It’s the first singles title for Cargill during her WWE career. She had previously won the women’s tag team titles twice.

Stratton had entered the match with the third-longest reign as WWE Women’s champion, having won the title on Jan. 3 after cashing in her Money in the Bank briefcase.

Stratton only lost one match during that reign, a non-title match against Stephanie Vaquer at Crown Jewel in October.

Cody Rhodes vs. Drew McIntyre results

Cody Rhodes retains the Undisputed WWE Championship after pinning Drew McIntyre in the ring.

McIntyre managed to counter Rhodes’ finishing move and redirect the champion into the referee.

McIntyre attempted to get the title belt to use as a weapon, but his plan backfired as he tried to grab it and Rhodes performed a DDT, with McIntyre’s head landing on top of the title.

Why is World Heavyweight Championship vacant?

A new World Heavyweight Champion will be crowned thanks to the injury of Seth Rollins.

On the Monday, Oct. 20 edition of Raw, general manager Adam Pearce confirmed Rollins had ‘major surgery’ and will be out of action ‘for quite a while’ due to a significant shoulder injury. As a result, the World Heavyweight Championship was stripped from Rollins.

The injury came after Rollins’ stablemates Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed surprisingly attacked him on Oct. 13.

While Pearce said the surprise attack was why Rollins needed surgery, it was reported the injury happened before then and was done to write him off TV.

Fans were rightfully cautious of any Rollins injury news after he pulled off the ‘Ruse of the Century’ when he appeared to suffer a devastating leg injury in July, only to return a month later to cash in his Money in the Bank contract in stunning fashion. But this time, it appears the injury is legit.

Is Saturday Night’s Main Event on NBC?

No, Saturday Night’s Main Event will stream exclusively on Peacock. WWE and Peacock announced a new multi-year deal where Saturday Night’s Main Event will move from NBC to Peacock.

Saturday Night’s Main Event history

It’s nearly been a full year since WWE brought back Saturday Night’s Main Event, a show that was meant to have WrestleMania-worthy matches for a nationwide audience.

As wrestling continued to grow across the country in the 1980s as WWE strengthened its position as the top company in the U.S., Saturday Night’s Main Event was a way to showcase its biggest stars getting in the ring against each other. Typically held on NBC, it allowed millions of people a rare opportunity to tune in to watch marquee matchups, and the show was a success from 1985-1992.

After a hiatus, it returned in 2006 and a couple more shows took place over the next few years. It returned again in December 2024 and appears to be something WWE is going to try to hold regularly. However, the show is now exclusively streamed on Peacock.

When is next Saturday Night’s Main Event?

The next Saturday Night’s Main Event will take place on Dec. 13. It will be a major one, as it will be John Cena’s final show and his retirement match.
