Carnell Tate injury update: Ohio State star WR to miss game vs UCLA

Ohio State football will be without Carnell Tate, for the second consecutive week due to injury, a school spokesperson told the Columbus Dispatch, part of the USA TODAY Network.

Tate, who missed the Buckeyes’ 34-10 win against Purdue on Saturday, Nov. 8, was held out of action out of precaution, and it appears the same situation is happening once again in Week 12. Ohio State takes on a UCLA team without its starting quarterback, Nico Iamaleava, on Saturday, Nov. 15.

Tate, a projected first-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, has 39 receptions for 711 yards with seven touchdowns this season. The 6-foot-3 receiver ranks second on the Buckeyes in receptions and yards in 2025, only behind Jeremiah Smith.

Here’s what to know of Tate’s injury.

Carnell Tate injury update

Tate will miss his second consecutive game against UCLA due to injury.

He was held out of Ohio State’s win over Purdue last week after an apparent injury crept up in warm-ups, although Ohio State coach Ryan Day said after the game Tate could’ve played if he was needed.

‘Carnell, we felt like he was gonna be OK to play, but when he went through warm-ups, he just felt something there, so we just wanted to be really careful,’ Day said. ‘Could he have played? Yeah, probably. But we’re just gonna rest him to make sure.’

It appears Tate, whose injury is unclear, is being held out again in order to get back closer to full strength for the Buckeyes’ final stretch of games.
