Texas State Trooper removed from post after incident with South Carolina players

Editor’s Note: This story has been updated with a statement from the Texas Department of Public Safety

A Texas State Trooper stationed near the tunnel at Kyle Field has been ‘relieved’ from his game day assignment following an incident with Nyck Harbor and several South Carolina players during the Gamecocks’ Week 12 road game at No. 3 Texas A&M.

The ‘shoulder bump’ incident took place in the final minute of the first half at Kyle Field following an 80-yard touchdown pass from LaNorris Sellers to Nyck Harbor that put South Carolina then up 27-3. After Harbor crossed into the end zone, the Gamecocks’ wide receiver kept running into the tunnel, where he was holding onto the back of his leg, which prompted several of his teammates to check on him. As they returned to the field, the trooper shouldered Harbor and yelled at him.

Here’s a look at the incident in the between the state trooper and Harbor:

Here’s another look at the incident in the tunnel:

Harbor’s touchdown just before halftime is the last time the Gamecocks have scored against the Aggies, at the time of this writing. The Aggies scored three touchdowns — a 27-yard pass from Marcel Reed to Izaiah Williams, a wide-open 39-yard pass to Ashton Bethel-Roman and a 14-yard pass to Nate Boerkircher — in the third quarter to make it a one-score game before the fourth quarter.

Texas A&M then erased its 30-3 halftime deficit with a 4-yard rushing touchdown from EJ Smith to win 31-30 and stay undefeated on the season.
