49ers QB saw body floating in water near Marina Del Rey, per report

Backup quarterback Mac Jones led the San Francisco 49ers to a road win over the Los Angeles Rams to kick off NFL Week 5 action.

The former first-round pick threw for 342 yards – the second-most in a game in his five-year career – on ‘Thursday Night Football’ to stay undefeated as a starter for the 49ers this season.

Jones was in the zone all game. He remained focused amid the numerous distractions surrounding the 49ers’ injuries and a bizarre event that occurred prior to the game.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is still investigating the incident, per Russini.

Jones completed 33 of 49 passes (67.3%) for 342 yards and two touchdowns in the win. That marks his first 300-yard passing game since Sept. 10, 2023 for the New England Patriots in their 25-20 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

San Francisco starter Brock Purdy suffered toe and shoulder injuries in the 49ers’ season-opening win against the Seattle Seahawks. Jones took over in his place in Weeks 2 and 3, won both games, then missed Week 4 with a knee injury. Purdy was visibly dealing with the toe injury in Week 4 but played and the 49ers lost to Jacksonville.

Jones proved on ‘Thursday Night Football’ he could hang tough in a close game against a potential playoff opponent – even with an extremely unusual event happening earlier in the day.
